SMART CITIES: Amsterdam Hackable Metropolis

Amsterdam Hackable Metropolis - The Mobile City from MediaLAB Amsterdam on Vimeo.

Big Brother may be a top-rated television show, but the idea of living underneath a microscope is not a hit for citizens in any city. Although surveillance cameras are watching our every move in public, not all facets of Smart Cities are related to invading our privacy.

According to Media Lab Amsterdam, “The idea of hackable city making is to involve citizens in the process of the development of the city. With Fietsersbond Herontwerp, citizens can actively participate in the process of redesigning the streets. This tool makes it possible for cyclists to hack the design proposals of the municipality and collaboratively create the best solutions for local traffic situations."
