TUESDAY TOOLS: Big PFC, The Social Media Love Machine

Hootsuite beat street. Your best Tuesday Tool is your brain. If your Prefrontal Cortex (PFC) is healthy and ultra plasticitous (like mine), then you love being a Social Media Sunflower, e.g., tweeting, texting, etc. simultaneously.  Indeed, Twitter is unpredictable. You have no idea what's coming down the stream. You may get a text or a phone call. So, you must be able to think on your feet to get the most out of each and every stimulus.

If you have lesions in the PFC area of your brain, then you loathe social media (and people in general). You are more "Critic" than "Creator" ... "Curmudgeon" not "Collaborator." In addition, you may have some or all of these other deficits: "... the inability to make behavioral shifts in attention, movement and attitude, decreased creativity, poor recall verbal and nonverbal material, difficulty writing, and in comprehension of logical-grammatical constructions (C 2005)."

So, don't despair if you feel left out of the Twitocracy. You are not a Social Media Wallflower because you want to be. It's involuntary. Perhaps, you had a head injury that has yet to fully heal from Little League or even a stroke. Check with your neurologist. Don't give up. Like any muscle, the more you exercise it, the stronger it gets.

TUESDAY TOOLS: Jillian Michaels, The Toughest Trainer

Jillian Michaels, America's Toughest Trainer helped the world become about 2,000,000 (yes, two million) pounds lighter and counting.  She recently announced that she will leave the hit television series, The Biggest Loser.  Next season, she will join The Doctors and Dr. Phil as their health and wellness panelist and correspondant, respectively.

Here is Jillian's best Tuesday Tool to help you lose the pounds and gain your sanity:

You do not have a glam squad on the payroll.

Unless you have a personal chef, fitness trainer, photo doctor, lighting engineer, and plastic surgeon on your staff, do not compare yourself to anyone in a magazine.

Revelation: They wish they looked like that magazine cover.  So, strive to have the ability to hire a glam squad or buy photo editing software, whichever comes first.

How do you see yourself in the mirror?

TUESDAY TOOLS: Gary Vee, The Grapeful Economist

Lent is over, and it's "Turtle Time."

The Thank You Economy is a new book by one of my favorite Tweeps, wine emperor and social media trailblazer Gary Vaynerchuk (@garyvee to me). In it, he shares how he built a $60 Million-plus business.

So, Dr. Michael Porter, at Harvard Business School, would approve of this sample of Gary Vee's Tuesday Tools:

• Happy customers are worth a lot more than any other kind.

• Companies of all stripes and sizes have to start working harder to connect with their customers and make them happy, not because change is coming, but because it's here.

• I am wired like a CEO and care a great deal about the bottom line, but I care about my customers even more than that.

Whilst you're leaving to buy a copy (or more) of the book, how do you propose a toast in this Thank You Economy?

TUESDAY TOOLS: Jack Dorsey, The Register Wreckingballer

How can something so small do something so big?

Square, led by Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey, is wreckingballing the cash register and removing barriers for small business owners to get paid now. Forget about invoices and hoping the check clears. Sell today  Get paid today. Stay safe in the process. Let your smart phone be your terminal.

Whether you're selling crème brûlée from a cart or designer handbags to a wholesaler, Using Square means you don't have to eat Ramen Noodles until you get your money.

That said, how can you use the revolutionary Tuesday Tool, Square, to expedite your receivables?

TUESDAY TOOLS: Oprah, The Toolmaker

One of my favorite things Oprah did recently was award Zach Anner his OWN show.

In today's New York Times, Zach tells Tara Parker Pope how he stole Oprah's heart despite cerebral palsy, which confines him to a wheelchair.

In a sea of able-body contestants, Zach stood out. As the season progressed, like Clint Eastwood, he took down his opponents. Although he was a co-winner, to me, Zach was the last one standing.

His advice to parents with disabled children is applicable to us all:

"... Find the tools for that person to thrive and find what their true passions are ... "

So, Oprah became a toolmaker for Zach and his passions for filmmaking, travel, and comedy. If his show-winning promo reel is any indication of the quality of his upcoming OWN show, that will be some must-see TV. Nielsen count on me.

How have you been underestimated and ended up victorious?
